Mathbills: a gallery and webstore
The circle and its hyperbola

--

Front: math spirituality

A philosophical argument for eternal life, based on a cirle's relationship with the hyperbola. .Extended to include the implied possibility of reincarnation and ghosts.

Back: form and flow

A simple family of parabolas, in motion as one variable is changed, and reflecting the other which is not.

Nefertiti's Curves -- Triabolic Roots

--

Here a cubic function having a linear component resembles a face. The card provides eleven views of the rotated form, eight of these flattened. .They include a compressed mirror-image cubic, and an eccentric hyperbola.

Sign of Dichotomy -- Triabolic Roots

--

Here a cubic function with a squared component resembles the cross of Jesus, cojoined with that of Lucifer. .Five views are shown, but the principal purpose of the card is to call into question religious certainty. .The implied point is that good and evil balance and define one-another.

Aprodite's Curves / Goddess Material

--

What I call "root curtains", are the assembled root curves of a family of functions. These can bear a striking resemlance to human forms. .With the math too complicated to go into in the space provided, the card focuses on the implications of finding, "goddess material", in mathematics.

Elegant Pursuits

--

This variant of Aphrodite's Curves resembles a flower, that which means to be entered and fertilized.

It raises questions of, "meaning", versus underlying fact; as the curves which run front-to-back can stand alone, but those which run between them, quite possibly, cannot.

The reverse-view, with its candy-heart shape, becomes my "Gothic Valentine".

The characters are adapted from Kanji for: flower, bird, wind and moon. .To the Japanese these are, "Beauties of Nature", or "Elegant Pursuits"; hence the name.

The Third State, (the French card)

--

Possibly to become a rarity, this explores sets of functions which can resemble a mushroom cap, (or cloud); a "passage" between offset parallel planes, (of which one side resembles a puff-ball, or belly great with child) ...and on the other side, a fanciful psilocybe I named, "Jacquibleu".

I believe that mushrooms were central to the megalithic culture of ancient Europe; and imagine drugs as part of humanity's development. I favor psychoactives being legal in their natural concentrations; and feel current laws create the impression of, "war against alternatives to war".

I am a self-taught mathematician .--. I have no degree.

My work is correct to the best of my understanding; but I cannot guarantee its flawlessness.

However .--. I have tested my results, and they hold up within the limits of these tests and their resolution.

__

I sometimes coin my own words for objects and actions .--. my terminology will be non-standard.

Since math is endless, and interconnected, please be aware that it is impossible to completely cover a subject.

At a point in any discussion, one comes to the edge of one's time, space, or understanding. .This edge is sometimes ragged.

__

Time and again through this site, you will see math presented in spiritual, philosophical terms.

I can't prove this, but see mathematics as neither construction nor creation. -- .foundation.

The above "mathbills" will be familiar to some viewers, because I hand them out for free in New York City.

I enjoy doing this. .Here you have the opportunity to buy those same bills, should you wish to.

The business is appreciated, and ultimately will be necessary if the work is to continue.

Unlaminated bills are $1 each. .Laminated ones are $2.00.

These bills are the same size as US Currency, and printed at 4 times screen resolution.

I currently use an Epson 2200 printer. .Its seven inks are considered lightfast, but they are not waterproof.

Although I inspect all my printing, there may be slight imperfections, particularly in front-back allignment and lamination.
